Joe could then stalk Forty, trying to find out what he knows, discovering he's in touch with Dr Nicky and writing with him. I think a better outcome for the series would have been Forty making his movie about Beck, and Joe being made extremely paranoid at the premiere after spotting things in the movie that did actually parallel what happened. Her scenes left me feeling like I was watching Wedding Crashers. I didn't feel there was much chemistry between her and Joe either. I didn't feel she was much of a presence through the series, her character was just so. I also quite enjoyed the acid trip episode, I think it was the most interesting part of the series actually. When watching s2, I was surprised to find myself liking Forty when he had been unbearable in the book. I think the whole LA thing threw me off and the talk of movies and fame etc took away from the grittiness and creepiness of Joe's character. I really struggled to get into the second book, which was a shame because I loved the first and couldn't put it down. But It's not so horrible that I won't finish it, it's just disconcerting trying to connect these new character profiles with the familiar names on the show, and the vibe seems so off kilter. I also feel like the show made a wise decision straying from the narrative, here.ĭISCLAIMER ('cause I know someone's gonna say it) No, nobody is forcing me to read it. I've given up on it tracking with the show, I just feel this book is not up to par with the first one in the way it's written. So, without spoiling the last 2/3 of the book (I did get spoiled about Joe going to prison at the end, but that's all I know) : Does this pick up? So far, not a lot has happened (despite my rambling synopsis of the first 135 pages). I'll keep reading the same paragraphs over and over, give up for the moment (hour, day.), and come here, instead. I'm less than a third of the way in!! I read the first book over two nights, and I started this one several days ago. Except I loved American Psycho, and even that had its funny moments. He's not as witty or something, just angry and unfunny - kind of like Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. Henderson is already dead, because Joe killed him thinking Amy was his girlfriend. The landlord is some annoying wannabe comedian guy that says "am I right, or am I right?" too much. She wants Joe to meet her parents right away. And Love was married twice.ĭelilah is a hot mess! Nothing like the sassy, tough girl on the show. Lots of talk about boats, movies and celebrities. Milo, so far, is their "brother from another mother", not Australian, and everyone but Joe likes him (including Forty). That same day (I think?) they're hanging out as a couple with Love and Forty's parents, who are ridiculously in love. Joe finds out she's in LA, tries to track her down, heads to a club holding auditions thinking she'll be there, quickly forgets about her when he meets Love (cotton candy girl?), who is producing Forty's film. Only now Joe is in LA to find Amy Adam (who isn't Candace or Britney Spear) because she is a conniving thief who suckered Joe into hiring her then robbed Mooney's Bookstore before disappearing. Everything is so different, but the names and locations are all there. But I am having a really hard time getting into Hidden Bodies. I really enjoyed the first book Season 1 was pretty true to it, with a few differences to keep things interesting. I'm on Ch.18, Joe has just met Love and Forty's parents at Chateau, and Milo was just coming into the story. Warning: Heavy-handed early book spoilers. Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?
